Coming January 2015!
Teen Services Department, Community Library
The Friends of the Arts has purchased all the equipment needed to start our community's first BeatClub.
Founded in Washington D.C. in 2012 by Barrett Jones, Beat Club has started in local schools, public libraries and
community centers throughout Washington DC , Virginia and Maryland, in an effort to bring the joy of making music
to young people. Armed with an arsenal of great Korg digital music products including microKEY, Kaoss Pads and more,
Beat Club offers a unique music making experience, in a way that traditional band and orchestra instruments do not.
Playing music is fun. Jamming live together a group can discover different combinations of sounds. Sometimes the
music is chaotic, other times it is smooth and restrained. In Beat Club, the emphasis is on experimenting and trying
things out: the typical steps one takes when learning how to use a new gadget. Beat Club will meet weekly at the
library or locations in the community and teens will have a chance to become digital music mentors and even be
entered to win a music scholarship. Learn more at: http://dcbeatclub.com/about
